Bubbles for Brains
Print
This print is based on my original oil painting, Bubbles for Brains, the original being featured in Grand Rapids Artprize 2026. The piece explores identity, perception, and the balance between joy and introspection. Streams of vibrant color flow from the figure's mind, representing imagination, emotion, curiosity, and the ever-changing nature of thought. The bubbles woven throughout this flow symbolize an experience that has shaped my own perspective, the realization that a joyful, lighthearted personality is sometimes mistaken for a lack of depth or intelligence. Through this piece, I challenge that misconception, celebrating the idea that intelligence and playfulness can exist side by side. Choosing joy, or having a 'bubbly' personality does not diminish one's ability to think deeply, work hard, or navigate life's challenges. I think at times it even makes them stronger. This piece represents those who move through the world with kindness, optimism, and an open heart, hoping to leave others happier than they found them.
